FOPP FUNDRAISER: BROOKSTONE NEIGHBORHOOD GARAGE SALE
We Need Your Donated Items - One of our friends, who resides in Brookstone, has generously offered up space in his basement to hold donations for FOPP to participate in their neighborhood garage sale on Friday and Saturday, May 4th-5th. This time 100% of the proceeds will benefit Price Park. Any item that you would normally sell at a garage sale will be accepted in good, used condition (please include batteries for those items that need them). However, please no clothing...we just won't have the ability to process clothing for this fundraiser. Please contact us at friendsofpricepark@gmail.com to schedule a drop-off or pickup. The deadline for donations is May 2nd unless you have a special situation or large item, in which case, we are willing to work something out with you.

MOTHER'S DAY EVENING WALK
Wildlife biologist, Dennis Krusac, will be leading a special evening walk at the park at 7pm on Mother's Day, May 13th. He will guide you through the park, pointing out wildlife and points of interest. Meet in the parking lot.
Local Neighborhood HOAs:
We are working on adding home owner's associations to our contact list so that neighborhood's will be able to distribute our news to residents that may have an interest in Price Park. Please send us your HOA contact info...email, phone, website, facebook pages etc. Even just the names of neighborhoods around the park is helpful. We hope to reach a greater number of local residents around the park in this way. THANK YOU!
PAST EVENTS
Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 8:30am - 11:30am
1st annual SPRING WORKDAY
Mark your calendars to enjoy some time outdoors sprucing up our favorite park to get ready for the new season. Bring the kids, there are jobs for all ages! RSVP is EXTREMELY helpful but not required. Volunteers will automatically be entered into a raffle to win a prize on the workday. WORKDAY DETAILS
- Please DRESS APPROPRIATELY - long sleeves, long pants, closed toed shoes, work gloves or other gloves for picking up trash, sunscreen, bug spray, eye protection etc.
- Please BRING clearly labeled (with your name) hand tools or gardening tools and/or plastic buckets for collecting trash if you have these items.
- Please DO NOT BRING power tools or work vehicles. Cobb County staff will be operating power tools and have gators for ferrying debris/trash.
- Please arrive at 8:30am if you can but if you can't, we will have someone stationed in the parking lot to direct volunteers to areas in need of help.
- A limited supply of t-shirts will be available for sale and we will be taking orders for t-shirts as well.
Update:
Saturday's Work Day Results: First of all, thank you to all 22 volunteers, 6 board members and 4 Cobb County Parks staff that came to last Saturday's work day to help with our current projects! All those people, working for at least 3 hours, added up to 96 work hours for the park! And a very special thank you to Brian Stover, and BLD Roll Off Containers, for your donation of a dumpster (once again) to put all the trash that was picked up. Congratulations to Scott G. for winning the volunteer raffle. He won a day pack, sunscreen and emergency whistle donated by REI of Kennesaw (thank you REI for helping us entice new volunteers!).
Here's a summary of the work that was done:
- Trail re-route project for trail parallel to Stilesboro: new trail corridor was cleared and a beautiful large tree was uncovered (was choked in invasive privet). This will be a great site for a bench/table in the future. The old section of trail will remain open until the new section is done, but it is walkable at this point (be careful of hidden stumps). The purpose of the reroute is to prevent environmental damage caused by erosion along the old trail section, which is not suitable for heavy traffic in this area.
- Another team widened and expanded a new hillside trail between the southern part of the Meadow Loop trail and the Allatoona Creek trail that connects a series of fantastic huge old trees (similar to our beloved meeting tree). We believe these trees were along a fenceline when the land was a farm and is the southernmost border of the original meadow (now being overgrown along the edges with young pine and sweetgum). There are a lot of dogwoods in this area as well.
- An area was cleared below the parking lot where an Eagle Scout team will be building a picnic table.
- An area was cleared around a fantastic, giant double pine tree on the North side of the Meadow Loop where an Eagle Scout team will build a picnic table.
- An area was cleared south of the Meeting Tree on the "ridgeline." It is the beginning of a new trail and an area where two Eagle Scout candidates will build picnic tables and benches.
- Many volunteers picked up trash all around the park and especially along Stilesboro Road.

We still need lots of items, especially kids clothes (sizes 18 months and up), toys, books, DVDs, games, baby gear, sports equipment, name-brand teen clothing, maternity clothing etc. Please contact FOPP for more information if you have items to donate. No donation is too small, even just a few items will be greatly appreciated and will help us get to our next big goal of funding the Master Plan update. The donation deadline is Feb. 25.

1st Annual Fall Cleanup Day
Please Join Friends of Price Park for our Annual Fall Park Cleanup Day! The following is a list of the projects we hope to accomplish during the Price Park cleanup
event, on the morning of October 15.
- Load lumber, trash and other materials from the old barn into the roll-off dumpster.
- Clean up trash and debris located along trails, primarily along the trail segment parallel
to Stilesboro Road between the parking lot and the northern end of the
sewer easement.
- Clear and clean up the area around the Meeting Tree and given sufficient time, around
the other large oak tree in the meadow.
Feel free to bring a plastic bucket to pick up trash. Home Depot sells these kinds of
5 gallon buckets. Cobb County Parks Department (PRCA) will have 5 or 6 staff
members on site for the cleanup day. They will bring some hand tools and
will have a large chipper onsite. We will also have a Gator with a dump-bed for ferrying
debris to the roll-off. FOPP would like to encourage volunteers to bring hand tools, and wear appropriate clothing:
closed toe shoes or boots, long pants, long sleeve shirts, work gloves, hat,
eye protection, sunscreen, insect repellant. We request that volunteers not bring power
tools or work vehicles of any kind. Let us know if you will be able to help
by sending an email to friendsofpricepark@gmail.com and
we will keep you posted. Call 678-414-0430 with questions.
